MOOMPLAY는 ‘본다’는 감각에서 출발해 몸과 시선, 그리고 그 사이에서 발생하는 관계와 인식의 방식을 탐구하는 공연예술 기반의 창작 플랫폼이다. 보는 행위가 이루어지는 공간을 무대와 객석의 구분에 한정하지 않고 극장, 갤러리, 도시의 거리, 공공장소, 디지털 환경과 스크린까지 확장하며, 보여주는 이와 보는 이의 역할이 뒤섞이는 지점에서 새로운 수행 경험을 만들어왔다. 장르와 매체의 경계를 두지 않고 현대무용, 장소특정형 작업, 전시와 같은 순수예술의 맥락과 TV, 콘서트, 뮤직비디오, 영상 등 상업예술의 현장을 함께 오가며 작업하고 있으며, 이러한 이중의 실천을 통해 서로 다른 창작 언어와 관객 경험이 만나는 접점을 탐색한다. 몸을 가장 본능적이고 고유한 언어이자 주재료로 삼아 감각의 교환과 선택이 발생하는 탐색의 과정을 이어가며, 그 안에서 생성되는 유희와 긴장을 관객과 함께 경험하고 공유하고자 한다. MOOMPLAY는 하나의 형식이나 스타일로 정의되기보다 예술과 대중, 실험과 소통 사이를 가로지르며 동시대의 감각적 교류와 확장된 공연 경험을 만들어가고자 한다.
MOOMPLAY is an experimental performance group founded by Esl Kim in 2019. The name MOOMPLAY is derived from the Korean words 몸 (mom), meaning body, and 눈 (noon), meaning eye or sight. Through observation, investigation, experimentation, and exploration, MOOMPLAY playfully and inquisitively engages the body, perception, and consciousness as ways of expanding how the observer/performer experiences and understands the world. Its projects unfold across diverse contexts—from contemporary performance and site-specific work to collaborations in media, concerts, and visual formats.
